Chua Ek Kay was a Singaporean artist known for his unique blend of traditional Chinese ink painting techniques and contemporary Western art styles. He is considered one of the most significant artists in Singapore's modern art history and has been credited with helping to revive and popularize Chinese ink painting in Singapore.
His paintings often feature bold, sweeping brushstrokes, and dynamic compositions that incorporate elements of both Chinese and Western art traditions. In recognition of his contributions to Singapore's arts scene, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion, Singapore's highest arts accolade, in 1999.
